Syrah
The prince of vintage wine grapes. Medium-bodied, between Cabernet Sauvignon and Bellova, with wine value. When fully ripe, the texture is silky and rich, like that of a Bellova. It is a late maturing variety with a dark color that grows best in warm, earthen soils such as granite. But if planted too closely, the fruit's characteristic mulberry and black pepper flavors fade. It is grown mainly in France, California, Australia and South Africa, and is best found in its native Rhone Valley.
