Versailles

King Louis XIV of France consolidated a system of absolute monarchical rule in France which lasted right up until the French Revolution. He also instigated one of the world’s great building projects – the transformation of a relatively simple hunting lodge into the fabulous Palace de Versailles. Wood floors were introduced to replace the marble which required constant washing, thus rotting the wooden joists beneath, and one of the parquet designs introduced still bears its famous name today – Versailles panels.WoodTopia’ s collection of Versailles flooring include both rustic grade panels with a distressed finish for an aged appearance and gentle grade panels in modern shades ideal for a contemporary setting. Now considered a true classic, the Versailles design consists of squares held together by what appears to be an interwoven mesh of wood strips, all within a wood frame.
